What is it like if you cannot go to school anymore, just because you are a girl? And then be given a second chance in a faraway country? What can you do if pollution is so bad in your city that breathing becomes dangerous? What is it like to live in a country without an army - an what can you do with the money saved? These and other questions were answered when students at UWC Robert Bosch in Freiburg shared their stories with our 2e students and TL2.
Albert talked about reforestation in his homecountry Armenia as well as in the Black Forest. He also told us about an inspiring invention to create cleaner air. Somaya shared what life is like in Afghanistan for girls and women since the Taliban have taken over control - and how the school in Freiburg is her chance of an education that she cannot get at home. Isabel from Costa Rica told us about her country's decision to abolish its army and how this has increased spending on health care and education.
The presentations are part of UWC's "Share your stories" project, realized by their teacher Chiara from Italy, which invites students from other schools to broaden their perspective and also to take a look at a school that is even more international than ours. After the inspiring talks, the DFG/LFA students had the chance to talk with each person and were also shown around campus. Here is what they said afterwards:
"I was fascinated by all the different stories, the multicultural atmosphere and the buildings of the college."
"Somaya’s story impressed me the most because even though in her country she is not allowed to go to school, she managed to escape and keep studying which I thought was really impressive and a good example of resilience."
"I will definitely keep in mind how strong these people seemed with their different stories and backgrounds and how all these people despite their differences mix this well together."
"What impressed me most was the story from Somaya. And how she could talk about all this."
"I found the diversity of the school impressive."
